چکیده
Portunid crabs contribute to significant commercial and recreational fisheries globally are commonly fished in estuaries and/or marine embayments, which amongst the most degraded of all aquatic ecosystems. Portunus armatus were collected seasonally between April February from five locations across three systems temperate south-western Australia. The dietary composition was quantified compared two (Peel-Harvey Swan-Canning) a sheltered embayment (Cockburn Sound) containing distinct habitats: shallow seagrass, sand deep sand. Overall, ingested large volumes bivalves (both live organisms dead shell), polychaetes, crustaceans (e.g., amphipods, small decapods), smaller teleosts, echinoderms plant material (seagrass, algae). Analysis Similarities showed that varied significantly among (two habitats within Cockburn seasons, with greater location than seasonal differences estuaries. We investigate the usefulness of analyses of population differentiation between different ecological types, such as host races of parasites or sources and sink habitats. To that aim, we formulate a model of population structure involving two classes of subpopulations found in sympatry. متن کاملFish Assemblages Associated with Natural and Anthropogenically-Modified Habitats in a Marine Embayment: Comparison of Baited Videos and Opera-House Traps
Marine embayments and estuaries play an important role in the ecology and life history of many fish species. Cockburn Sound is one of a relative paucity of marine embayments on the west coast of Australia. Its sheltered waters and close proximity to a capital city have resulted in anthropogenic intrusion and extensive seascape modification. This study aimed to compare the sampling efficiencies ...
متن کاملDifferences in photosynthetic marine biofilms between sheltered and moderately exposed rocky shores
Photosynthetic microbial biofilms are an important functional component of rocky intertidal habitats worldwide. The abundance of organisms within these films varies both seasonally and according to vertical emersion gradients. However, the effects of horizontal gradients of wave exposure, which have a key influence on macrobiotic assemblages, have received little attention. Here, we examine the...

Despite suggestions that extensive mixing and large-scale transport of organic matter occurs within estuarine systems and across fluvial-estuarine-coastal ecotones (Teal 1962, Odum 1980), more recent evidence in estuarine detritus-based food web systems has shown strong gradients in the sources of organic matter assimilated by consumers across diverse fluvial-estuarine-coastal ocean scales (Pet...
